Event Details
A Taste of Los Angeles Belly Dance will be the kick-off event for the Los Angeles Chapter of MECDA.
We will be offering several 15-minute mini-workshops during the day by our featured artists Devilla, Heather Shoopman and Mandala DanceWorks, giving you a "taste" of our Los Angeles talent as well as offering a 1-hour workshop with headliners Princess Farhana and Khani Zulu, followed by amazing vending and performances from some of Los Angeles' hottest teachers and performers, including: Mesmera, Stefanya, Katya, Merryl Jensen, Qabila Folkloric Dance Company, Marque Bissell, Danse De Coeur Company and more!

ARMED AND DANGEROUS!: ORIENTAL HANDS AND ARMS WITH PRINCESS FARHANA

Beautiful hands and arms are the icing on the cake of your performance!
This workshop focuses on technique drills for gorgeous hands and arms in belly dance.
Learn how to accent and frame your movements, how to improve “flow” and to add sensual flourishes and embellishments to your performance, and how to dance with slow, graceful arms layered over quick movements and shimmies.
We will cover Egyptian, Turkish, Rom and folkloric gestures, as well as dramatic arm and hand positions suitable for fusion performances. We'll also drill hands and arms with finger cybals...So bring your cymbals!

KHANI ZULU
AS THE WORLD TURNS, SO WILL YOU WITH KHANI ZULU

We will work on mastering the secrets of turning!
In the first half of the class, I will teach you the keys to preparation, drilling, spotting, and executing turns.
We will work on basic turns that you see in belly dance and we will also work on other turns you can add to spice up your belly or belly-fusion choreographies.
In the second half of the class, we will explore and use our turns in a fusion choreography!
